BETH (belouise)

I’m a wife to an amazing artist and a homeschooling, stay at home, mama to 3 with a Fashion degree from SCAD who once upon a time used to work as a clothing designer but fell in love with being with her babies too much to go back to leaving them for so many hours a day.  Soooo, now I have a passion for all things crafty as my outlet while I am busy managing a home.  My children are my biggest inspiration and I especially enjoy making things for them.

I LOVE the fact that there is so much creativity on the web and I spend a lot of time trying out tutorials or just drooling over other designers’ amazing work when I’m not busy working on my own ideas.  You will find lots of links to such sites on my blog.  I love giving credit where credit is due.  One of the best things about art school was being surrounded by other artists and drawing off of that.  The internet has made that possible even when I’m sitting in my living room drinking a nice hot cup of coffee and that makes me happy.

I’m a bit scattered in my makings, mainly because I have a tendency to get very focused on one thing until I become bored with it and then move on to something else.  I don’t like to turn something that is a joy into a job and so I’ve closed up shop on a few business ventures when that has happened.  Sometimes I just need to dabble in another area for a while and then I go back to it.  So you may see everything from sewing, crocheting, knitting, felting, beading, silversmithing, shoe making, dollmaking, costume design or even gardening around here.  Just depends on my mood at the time.  My blogging is simply a way for me to keep a journal of what I’m working on and where I find inspiration…keeping a scatterbrain a little more organized.

After beginning this adventure, I decided that some of the great talent that I get to rub elbows with on a regular basis might also like to share in the fun of it all and so I asked a few of them if they’d like to share Looliloo with me.  So I’m pleased to have my first couple of blog sharing buddies on board…Kelly and Jennifer.  We’ll get their bios up very soon!

fall-winter-2008-1731I’m Jennifer of Chicken Hill….I live in a small college town in the mountains of North Carolina.  My husband & I have 3 children that we get to share our lives with.  We are a homeschooling family that tries to work through all life’s ups and downs while having FUN together!  My oldest daughter is a nature lover with a knack for creativity.  No doubt, one day she will out-match my crafty skills!  My only son is a child that loves to learn and tell jokes & stories.  I pray that he continues to cultivate his amazing imagination!  And lastly, watching my littlest one twirl around in a homemade fairy costume is too precious—it seems she is always dressed in costume!  The click-clacking of her dress up shoes on our wood floors is music to my ears.  So with all that said, I AM pretty busy but not too busy to create.  I have a need to work on stuff.  Change things around.   Life is too short to watch it pass us by.

Looking back, I don’t remember being too “crafty” growing up.  It wasn’t until sometime in college that I started unleashing my creative spirit.  I love to tinker in a lot of different things…knitting, guitar & music, sewing, upcycling, reading, green living, painting, gardening, chickens, letterboxing, and Lord willing, my life list will continue to be inspired.

About 2 years ago, I made a pact with one of my friends to make a conscience effort to not purchase anything new without looking for the item in a used fashion.  This was a life changing decision for me!  The ability to be patient and ”hunt” for the things I needed was a huge transition.  A big change in living more simply.  So with this practical lifestyle change, it has encouraged me to use this theory in my crafting world too.  I really enjoy breathing new life into random items that I find.   I try to give things a second glance, a second chance.

I am super excited to share this crafty blog with two of the coolest chicks I’ve ever met!  I hope this site will be an encouragement to all that follow our endeavors.  If anything, maybe it will bring you a little laugh or a smile to your day.
